The NRA is resisting new gun control legislation, blaming the recent
mass shootings on violent video games.
I personally support the right to keep and bear arms, and I've never
been much of a fan of video games. That said, it seems to me that
video games -- no matter how violent -- are protected by the First
Amendment. One need only look back fifty years or so to a time when
rising youth crime was blamed on comic books, followed by rock-n-roll
music, blue jeans, and so on.
What I find interesting about the NRA's statement is that it puts
conservatives in the same position as liberals, who would also ban
violent video games if given a chance. Conservatives want to
protect the Second Amendment, while both conservatives and liberals
want to ban the First Amendment, so guess which one is going to go?
